BIO
Melissa E. Wertheimer is a Senior Digital Collections Specialist for Web Archiving at the Library of Congress. She first joined the Library in 2018 as a Music Reference Specialist in the Music Division. She has taught graduate archives and digital curation courses at UMD since 2024. She researches relationships between performing arts, web archives, digital preservation, and archival theory. Melissa has been invited to present papers, lectures, and workshops by the International Internet Preservation Consortium; National Digital Stewardship Alliance; Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference; Music Library Association; International Association of Libraries, Museums, Archives and Documentation Centres of the Performing Arts; and Center for Digital Culture and Society at the University of Pennsylvania. Melissa has served as Co-Chair of the 2026 NDSA Web Archiving Working Group, Co-Chair of IIPC’s Content Development Group, Chair of the Society of American Archivists Web Archiving Section, and Archivist of the Music Library Association. She holds a Digital Archives Specialist Certificate from the Society of American Archivists; MLIS in Archives and Digital Curation from the University of Maryland, College Park; Master of Music in Piccolo from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University; and Bachelor of Music in Flute from Ithaca College.
